Art as a New Perspective
A reflection on art, self-awareness and the power of new perspectives to reshape the way we understand ourselves and the world.
One of the things that has always fascinated me about art is its ability to become a mirror for self-reflection in a way that challenges the boundaries of my own thinking.
I spend a great deal of time reflecting every day. But most of that reflection takes place within frameworks I already know.
We all have our own frameworks for life and for understanding the world. And I genuinely enjoy reflecting on myself, my choices and my development within the boundaries of my own well-established perspective.
But from time to time, I need to have my way of thinking challenged.
This is where art enters the picture.
Art has a unique ability to shift my perception of things. There is a certain freedom in that.
After encountering a work of art, I often see myself differently — even when it confirms something I already sensed. I begin to understand my circumstances from another angle.
Art does not simply challenge me.
It gives me perspective.
A new perspective.
And if there is one thing we need as human beings, it is the ability to discover new perspectives that help us move forward.
