Moving Pen

A writing practice for cultivating attention through handwriting.

Moving Pen

For most of my life, writing has been more than a profession.

It has been a way of paying attention.

Whenever life became uncertain, writing remained. Not because it gave me all the answers, but because it helped me discover better questions.

Over time, I realised something that changed the way I think about writing:

When we keep the pen moving, something begins to shift.

The mind becomes quieter. The body becomes more present. Thoughts emerge that cannot always be reached through thinking alone.

This is the foundation of Moving Pen.

A guided writing practice built around one simple principle:

Keep the pen moving.

Why handwriting?

In a world defined by speed, information and constant digital distraction, handwriting creates a different kind of space.

A space for reflection.

A space for deeper thinking.

A space where we can listen to ourselves before responding to everything around us.

Writing by hand is not about nostalgia.

It is about attention.

When the hand becomes part of the thinking process, we slow down enough to notice the stories we carry — and the stories we want to create.

The Moving Pen Practice

Moving Pen explores the connection between handwriting, attention and identity.

Through carefully designed writing exercises, participants explore:

• The stories they tell themselves about who they are

• The experiences that have shaped them

• The values that guide their choices

• The perspectives that influence the way they work and live

The purpose is not to become a better writer.

The purpose is to become a more attentive human being.

Because attention shapes the stories we create.

Moving Pen for Organisations

Every organisation has a story.

Every person does too.

Moving Pen workshops help organisations, leadership teams and groups create space for reflection, attention and meaningful conversations through handwriting.

The workshops explore:

• Identity and shared narratives
• Reflection and learning
• Human connection
• The stories that shape the way we work together

In a time where artificial intelligence can generate words in seconds, our ability to listen more deeply may become one of our most important human skills.

Moving Pen helps organisations create space for the conversations that matter.

If you would like to explore Moving Pen for your organisation, I would be happy to start a conversation.

About Moving Pen

Moving Pen was created by Izack Stjernberg — writer and journalist.

After nearly three decades working with writing, storytelling and people, Moving Pen emerged from a simple question:

What happens when we slow down enough to truly listen?

The answer is found in the practice itself.

Pen in motion.

Attention restored.

Stories discovered.

Because stories begin with attention.
